Janet England is a journalist
and public relations professional with 18 years experience in
media, corporate communications and major events.
She has worked as a journalist in regional newspapers, metropolitan
television and national radio.
As a reporter for ABC Radio in Queensland, she covered rounds
including State Parliament, the Fitzgerald Inquiry, the Supreme
Court and Industrial Relations.
Her extensive public affairs experience includes roles in State and
local government and the corporate sector, including senior media
relations positions with AMP, The Royal Flying Doctor Service and
the Department of Employment, Training and Industrial Relations.
Janet was also speechwriter to former Lord Mayor of Brisbane
Sallyanne Atkinson.
As Media and Communications Manager for AMP in Queensland, Janet
was responsible for leveraging the company’s sponsorship of the
Sydney Olympics, including the national Ignite the Dream tour and
the Sydney 2000 Community Cauldron and Torch Relay celebrations.
While at AMP she devised all media training for the company’s
national network of adviser/ambassadors, and played key roles in
communications strategies for AMP’s listing on the national Stock
Exchange in 1998.
Janet was Media and Public Relations Manager for the 2001 Goodwill
Games Brisbane. Along with media relations and government liaison,
her Games portfolio included the development and management of a
500 capacity Main Press Centre, six Venue Press Centres and a media
volunteer force of 100.
She worked as Public Affairs Consultant for the 2003 Rotary
International Convention providing communication strategies and
crisis management plans to help bring 17,000 Rotarians to Brisbane
at a time when the War on Iraq and the threat of SARS caused many
international gatherings to be cancelled.
Janet holds degree in journalism and is a tutor and guest lecturer
in “Genres of Journalism” at Griffith University.
