Allan's background spans journalism and corporate communications. He has been a reporter/senior reporter for ABC's Nationwide and 7.30 Report
before being appointed as the Bureau Chief for Network Seven's Real Life and later the Melbourne bureau chief for Network 10's glossy public affairs program Page One. Later still he was the inaugural, Executive Producer of Today Tonight in Melbourne, and then the long serving Supervising Producer of Channel 9's, A Current Affair. Allan has also taught at the Australian Film Television and Radio (AFTRS)  He then jumped the fence to the dark side and moved into communications.

He was Director, Media Relations at a leading Public Affairs consultancy where he worked on accounts such as Australian Electoral Commission, Heinz, Spotlight, Office of the Status of Women (Dept PM & C) and a number of other corporate and government clients.

Since then he has worked on his own client base providing media and government relations services in the retirement, development and animal welfare arenas and recently spent 18 months as the media director for Austin Health to coordinate all media and stakeholder communications for Olivia Newton John's Great Walk to China.
